Tour Across Vietnam – Country of Dragons in 17 Days: On this 17-day journey of Vietnam, you’ll see the diverse terrain throughout the full length of the “Dragon,” as well as ancient cities, magnificent beaches, vibrant ethnic minorities, and a startling array of cultures.
Our incredible Vietnam adventures begin in Hanoi. After being welcomed at the airport and driven to our hotel, we have a short walk through the Old Quarter before enjoying a lovely supper and a tour briefing before retiring for the night.
Hanoi is a fascinating and bustling city rich in history, with a great combination of French colonial and Vietnamese architecture and food. We spend the day touring the city’s major attractions, including Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum, the Museum of Ethnography, and the serene Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first university.
There will also be time to explore the Old Quarter’s colorful streets, where streets are called by the things they offer and where everything conceivable is purchased and sold. We’ll eat at an NGO restaurant that teaches and cares for “street kids,” preparing them for jobs in the hospitality and tourist sectors. This evening, before riding an overnight train north to Lao Cai, we will watch the centuries-old water puppet show
We journey up into the highlands from Lao Cai to the alpine town of Sapa. Sapa, formerly a summer retreat for French colonialists fleeing Hanoi’s summer heat, is today a trading center for highland minority people, and the greatest spot in Vietnam to observe many of the many ethnic minorities.
From Sapa, you may take day trips to exciting weekend markets and other towns to enjoy the rural tranquility and green surroundings. Alternatively, simple walking through minority communities with an optional overnight home stay provides a unique perspective on the old subsistence culture that is still practiced today.
Spend the day in Sapa and visit some tribe villages as Laochai, Tavan, Catcat, Taphin…
On our final evening, we take the train back to Hanoi.
Train arrives early in morning, refresh and have breakfast, our driver then will take you up from your hotel and transport you to Halong Bay. On roads, it takes around 2.5 hours to get to Halong.
Explore magnificent Halong Bay on our live-aboard Vietnamese ‘junk’. It’s easy to understand why this is a UNESCO World Heritage site while traveling among the 1500 limestone islands towering high from the water. Visit caverns, secluded lagoons, and deserted beaches, swim, sea kayak if you desire, see the local boat people, and relax. Our captain leads us through the maze of winding tunnels, and the beautiful crew provides us with abundant seafood feasts.
The second day on the boat for the Halong Bay cruise
The three-day Halong Bay cruise excursion concludes at lunchtime.
You will be picked up and transferred back to Hanoi to check into your hotel and rest.

We fly from Hanoi to Hue in the middle of the day. Hue, located on the banks of the Perfume River and praised by Vietnamese writers for its romantic air and beauty, was the Royal Dynasty’s residence until 1945. A mystery tour of Hue and its surroundings, driven on motos, from Emperors’ tombs to Buddhist pagodas, will give you a true sense of the place. If you prefer, you can take a tour of the DMZ with an informative English-speaking local guide.
You have the day to spend doing city tour; include Royal Citadel which was constructed by Emperor Gia Long in the style of French military architect Vauban during the first decades of the 19th century, Tu Duc tomb, Minh Mang tomb
A romantic boat ride on Perfume river and visit Thien Mu pagoda is also suggested
Travel the picturesque seaside route to Hoi An, our favorite Vietnamese town. We stop along the route for a short hike up Marble Mountain to view caverns and temples carved into the rock.
We arrive in Hoi An in time for an early dinner at one of the town’s superb restaurants, a fantastic way to start experiencing the rich history and culture.
From the 17th through the 19th century, Hoi An was an important trade port. Walking through the streets, you definitely feel surrounded by history. The village has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its many antique buildings, calm alleyways, and covered bridges are being saved and restored. Hoi An is today known for its unique architectural history, expert tailors, an abundance of silks, and great food. Hoi An is also the best spot to get economical custom-made clothing. A beautiful beach is close, and people-watching on the riverbank with a refreshing drink in hand is hard to better.
We take a day excursion to My Son to visit the Cham kingdom’s historic temple remains — the most important Cham monument in Vietnam. A cooking class in Vietnamese cuisine, which is optional, provides us a true flavor for the local delicacies.
Free day to explore Hoi An.
A short flight south takes us to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), a city of stunning contrasts. We hail cyclo and zigzag our way to the War Remnants Museum, a sobering memorial to the Vietnam War, then lighten up with a stroll around the unusual Presidential Palace and Ben Thanh (the central market and a great place to stock up on fine roasted coffee from the highlands).
The Mekong Delta, Vietnam’s rice bowl, is one of the world’s biggest deltas. We’ll explore its rich wealth and beauty by bicycle and boat, stopping at modest farms and workshops on islands dotted with waterways and tributaries. In a pleasant and rustic house stay, we spend a quiet night near to people and environment. After seeing floating marketplaces in the morning, we return to Saigon for the afternoon.
The famed Cu Chi Tunnels are approximately 250 kilometers of tunnels where Viet Cong soldiers developed underground pseudo-cities, allowing them to enter and control broad areas around Saigon completely unnoticed.
You’ll be able to witness the confined existence firsthand, and we’ll make a stop at the intriguing Cao Dai temple on our way back. Alternatively, you may spend a day in Saigon enjoying amazing food, intriguing museums, a soothing massage, and limitless shopping opportunities. Later in the afternoon, return to your accommodation. – Strolling around the night walking street (Bui Vien, De Tham streets)
– Go on a nighttime scooter or motorcycle trip.
